welcome today we're going to show you a very short tutorial on how parents can access their children's grades in PowerSchool and our Middle School standards Bay environment you can see I'm on the Zionsville Community Schools website and someone to click for parents and I'm going to school down right now to PowerSchool this is where we are all of our grades for courses I'm going to log in with my child's log in just the first name Heights and last name and my 4-Digit pin can you can see that it pulls up and I'm going to see one of two views when it pulls up and which tab you're on will depend on where you were last time you were in PowerSchool where you left off so not a problem you can easily switch of use this grades and attendance tablet instantly show you a list of all your child's courses teachers and room numbers semester 1 semester 2 or shown they're going to switch over to standards grades because it's there that I'm going to see the standards reach course and what current grades are which probably what we want to see when we first login and standards grades and courage you actually you can you can look in either of you what are the max Lee has a little bit more detail for you the one that you see come up first will allow you to pull down the course and if there are graded standards they will show up under here you'll be able to see the grade for the class so for instance I'm going to go ahead and pull down the language arts standards I've dropped some that's in there so that you can actually whip so you can actually see those and what you see is any standard for which enough evidence has been collected in class for the teacher to feel that we actually have a great running for that standard right now if there's not enough evidence that standard actually won't show up until the teacher has collected enough evidence that an a grade typically a couple of assignments at least not not just one there is another place you can see it all assignments that have been turned in but here in standards great you'll only see the listed if enough evidence has been collected for an actual grade to be running right now this is the current grade showing the mode of the evidence collected so if I have 3 assignments and they're all up I'm going to see Abby showing up for this standard  you can see that mr. current has collected enough evidence in three areas for this student to see Reading literature vocabulary and writing is a couple of other standards than not showing up right now because he doesn't collected evidence in them I can also see the for College and Career ready standards CCR these are basics standards required for success in every class and I can see over here that instead of getting an A B C D or F in those standards it simply shows up as meeting expectations if I needed approvement it would show up as needing Improvement now this is a very quick view that allows you to see what's going on with grades at a glance but if you want a little bit more information this classic view is probably better and I'll show you why when it's girl down I can switch to classic view  and what size there is it's all expanded every course with standards grated is going to be shown already expanded for you and the standard is actually linked so if I'm not sure what it what the standard is about I click on it and I can quickly pull up and it shows me okay what is Reading literature if my child struggling with that are doing well with that what are the skills so I can see here she has to be able to summarize cite text evidence draw inferences to support her analysis analyze elements of Literature Like theme author's purpose and point of view also what's nice here as I can scroll down and I can quickly see alright the grades assigned represent this level of performance so in a for we use both I will show that on a performance-based measure my child's able to apply this skill independently accurately and very consistently and if it were quantitative measure such as math problems or a vocabulary quiz typically showing about 90% accuracy or higher on debt standard Meister is able to transfer the skill to new tasks Avast and really is meeting and exceeding the core standards for this reporting period on that standard so no the words nice summary patient for you in this view is with the College and Career ready standards you can see the next to this one I have this little. That means there's a comment there current it shows good job completing assignments on time which is great news to have probably if I had a needs Improvement in that category that that little comment might be more important because it would be giving me some more information about just what kind of improvement was needed at this point in the semester and those might change over the course of a semester the teacher enters information  no I think the next thing I want to know is a parent is my child's got a C in writing that seems to be the weakest area so I kind of want it see what assignments set into that writing grade right now so let's go back to the grades where to see the assignments that actually went into the standards grades I'm going to just open the teachers grade book for semester one for the language arts class and here I can see all assignments collected so far during the semester I see the due date for each assignment the category the title and what's really interesting is that I see some real specific detail here about what the assignments were about for instance the Romeo and Juliet act 2 interpretation I can see over here that my student got score for on the rubric for that assignment I can also see that the assignment was really measuring my child's ability into areas Reading literature Romeo and and vocabulary and I can see that there was an assigned by the teacher for each of those standards based upon her performance on this assignment the next assignment actually has me a little worried because I see that there's a vocabulary assignment the received a zero and I also can see that the zero was a result of the assignment being sing not that the sign that was turned in and received no points on the scoring rubric it actually isn't there so that's a conversation I want to have with my child but recall the reason I went into the Gradebook in the first place was that I wanted to find out why my child had a c in writing and that was the lowest area on the standards grades time  so it's either a couple of writing assignments in here and what's nice is my teacher has set up the category so that I can click on the category and be reminded what that writing standard is so just as I looked earlier at those standards I can be reminded of exactly what I'm being my child being asked to do right song grants with appropriate structure and supporting evidence rights narrative compositions and so forth when I look at the writing assignments though I see that in the Romeo Juliet monologue writing  my child actually received an a for the communication part of this and I do remember her practicing that speech and a sea for the writing itself and you'll see there was no overall score given for the rubric for that assignment because the teacher actually went directly to the two different parts of it and assigned better grade scores when I look at the next assignment other writing assignment with quotations I see she received a two on the rubric for that assignment A2 or C and taken another C for writing so I'm starting to understand why the writing has been a struggle and I also know exactly where to direct my conversation with her and with her teacher about things can do to improve  this gives us again a very nice view of our standards grades so that I can very quickly see the overall grades glass  and the assignments that feed into those so what we be shown you here is two different ways that you can check your child's grades you can see a quick view of all scores on homework assignments and classwork you can also see the for all standards grade that is going at the time hope this has been helpful please feel free to ask your classroom teacher if there's other information that you have questions about
