I think last three years I've increased a lot of formative assessments so kids have a way to get really quick feedback instant feedback and they're not feeling the pressure of getting a final Mark and their grade so a lot more formative assessments and I would say less summative assessments we still have to measure their overall Master of the topic but we're formative in an environment where they're able to without that that stress of having to Mark and get instant feedback and I would also say with assessment is is that that I eat a realize that learning can't play throughout the entire school year not just okay this unit we're done this unit we're done this you know we're done so realizing that that learning can take Master can take place at the unit is over and so reassessing those students at a time even though the unit is complete will they can still check for Mastery later on by the school year I think the biggest thing I've learned about assessment is that proof of learning can take off worms that kids can show me what they know in an essay or they can show me what they know in a project or in a lab and so I've tried to give Kids Choice in certain chew ations to prove to me how they learn or that they have learned and I've also I've also changed my assessment because I used to think I to ask questions about every little detail and now it's more give them an open-ended response and let them show me that they know D and can apply it to a certain situation things that I've learned about assessment that we've put into Play Already is or not counting 0 so we're giving kids chance we want them to do the work that's the goal not to just give them a zero and let them pass on and that were allowing turn to redo some assignments and retake some assessment I've learned a lot I've really taken like a critical eye on what I'm doing and why assigning thing I think for me what I've really taken look at is the purpose of assessment like why am I signing this homework assignment what's the what are the students going to get out of that and really being able to take a critical eye over how were assessing what type of information we're getting out of the students why am I finding particular you know assessment to begin with and for me that's been kind of pie opening because a lot of the things that I thought were good assessments really aren't so good for example like multiple choice versus like long or short answer can the student you know multiple choice is going to assess whether they the definition but like a long answer question is going to be able to tell me can they apply the vocab to a particular situation and so that's me there I opening over the last 3 years assess what the child knows and I think that  in the past we've been using different things to assess students in used as a reflector in their grade that maybe hasn't play work so I think that's a big thing for me making sure that everything that were using  reflection of what child individually now and I think also over the last three years we've been really thinking about is what we are assessing rigorous meaning are we challenging our students are we asking them to think outside the box to create rather than regurgitate give us information that's easily memorized assessment is so multi-faceted there's so many different ways to assess but I think through the last three years we we really looked at how are we are assessing our students and are we assessing them in a way that is a reflection of what they know and you know taking a look at our homework and is that homework meaningful and making turn that what we're doing with them is valuable and then ultimately having all of these little practices along the way so that in that summative assessment evaluate then it's a true reflection of what they know what I've learned is that  quality of the question is much better than the quantity of meaning that if you ask better questions questions that dive into have students explain more have students elaborate I have students show their work for a math problem is much better than the multiple guests type questions or or fill in the that questions shows more what they know not what they can draw back from random memory  I think that the first thing that really comes to my when I'm thinking about assessment is that being able to work together as teachers with our days and during time we had opportunities to do gave me the definite understanding that we were on a vastly different page with our assessments and that has loud us to narrow the Gap as far as how we assess as a whole and so my assessments of changed in that way because of that ability to do so good thing that really matters is that I have built into my assessment practices much more formative assessment and because of in the past used to be everything kind of turned in was all apart of what went into creating a grade and now that's not the case at all much more formative work practice work learning how to do that giving you them the opportunity to fail and then learn that skill and be able to show Mastery of it
